Experimental tradition in Gata de Gorgos

The basis of our cuisine is our passion for updating traditional cuisine, adapting ancestral techniques to the possibilities of our time and surprising our customers with reminiscences of the past.

For this reason, discovering new readings of traditions in any field is one of our greatest passions. And very close to us, year after year, an event takes place whose base is to turn something very traditional into experimental art.

In the nearby town of Gata de Gorgos, Art Al Vent was born, the re-reading in the form of contemporary textile art of a tradition deeply rooted until a few decades ago in the entire region of the Marina Alta, and that is still preserved in this town.

The popular tradition of placing quilts on balconies at the passing of a procession has been adapted to artistic experimentation and has become an open-air exhibition of contemporary textile art with the participation of artists from all over the world. In this year's edition, from August 14 to September 8, 81 canvases by artists from 20 different countries will be exhibited on the balconies. To insist on the re-reading of a tradition, the route of the exhibition goes from the church square to the square where the craft stores are located and which have earned the town a reputation as a center of commerce.

We recommend you to take the guided tour to enjoy even more your walk through this peculiar exhibition, and of course to complete your day in our restaurant to continue enjoying renewed traditions and taste our culinary experiences.

Beyond lunch

One of Samaruc's weaknesses is salted fish and traditional cuisine, something that could not be missing in the traditional lunch of the area in a creative way.
