Enjoying nature in Dénia

Summer is finally here, the good weather, the long days and the holidays to enjoy them.

The main option to enjoy the coming months are the many beaches and coves that we have within our reach in Dénia, but our city offers ideal plans for active tourism and in contact with nature.

The Montgó Natural Park

The Montgó is a 753m high mountain flanked by Dénia to the north and Xàbia to the south.

Declared a natural park in 1987, it has an extension of 2117 hectares in which more than 650 species of flora and more than 150 species of vertebrates can be found. It has also been home to human settlements over the centuries, from the Upper Palaeolithic to the Iberians, Romans and Muslims.

There are several hiking routes through the natural park with different levels of difficulty to discover the most important and beautiful remains and sites of our environment.

Cabo de San Antonio Marine Reserve

The Cabo de San Antonio is part of the Montgó Massif Natural Park and the marine reserve at its foot protects a transition zone between the low, sandy coasts with detrital materials of the Gulf of Valencia and the cliffs of up to 150 metres.

The Nature Reserve is a protected area of high ecological value that occupies 900 hectares and is home to species such as corals and posidonia oceanica meadows. Sea turtles, dolphins and whales are some of the marine species that frequent the reserve, as well as birds such as the peregrine falcon, the shag, the osprey, etc.

The Marine Fisheries Reserve is located within the Nature Reserve, where fishing and the collection of marine organisms, marine flora and fauna are prohibited without the corresponding authorisation, and professional diving requires a special permit. El Rubio fish from the Denia fish markets

The reserve is home to the emblematic Cova Tallada, access to which is limited from 15 June to 30 September. Find out the conditions for your visit and request your access. here.

One of Samaruc's weaknesses is salted fish and traditional cuisine, something that could not be missing in the traditional lunch of the area in a creative way.
